Short answer: public market rates for a Vietnamese-speaking tour guide in China are roughly 800-1,650 CNY per 8-hour day, usually excluding cars and tickets. Quỳnh Nguyễn is based in Beijing's Chaoyang District and accompanies 1-8 guests across China. True China Experience quotes per trip and has no public daily rate.
I'm Quỳnh Nguyễn, a private guide speaking Vietnamese, English and Mandarin. I plan full trips and offer airport pickup, private drivers, Chinese SIM cards and interpreting for meetings, shopping and sourcing.
⚠️ Verify before you go: these are market prices from public rate cards (see Sources), not my rates. They vary by city, season, group size and exchange rate. Updated 5 October 2026.
Vietnamese-speaking tour guide in China: how much per day?
Public examples start at 800 CNY per 8-hour day for a local guide and 180-220 USD for a Vietnamese-speaking guide in Beijing. Compare the language, hours and inclusions before treating any published price as a match for your trip.
| Service | Typical price | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Licensed English-speaking guide, guiding only | 50-120 USD/day | nebulatrip.com |
| Local guide, 8 h, up to 5 guests | from 800 CNY/day | hdvlocal.com |
| Vietnamese-speaking private guide, Beijing, 8 h | 180-220 USD/day | dulichchina.com |
| Family guide (elderly parents or children) | 200-250 USD/day | dulichchina.com |
| Group of 10-20 guests, another provider's offer | 300-350 USD/day | dulichchina.com |
| Business, exhibition or event interpreter | from 1,200 CNY/day | hdvlocal.com |
| Hourly (Beijing) | 35-40 USD/h, 4 h minimum | dulichchina.com |
| Remote help (tickets, taxis, translation) | from 300 CNY/day | hdvlocal.com |
| Fully private tour (guide, car, hotels, tickets) | 150-300 USD/person/day | chinafantasytravel.com |
Vietnamese travellers can convert at 1 CNY ≈ 3,930 VND (1 October 2026): 800-1,650 CNY is about 3.1-6.5 million VND per day.
The detail that matters most is the unit. Day guides charge per group; packaged tours charge per person. Four people sharing a 200 USD guide pay 50 USD each.
Should I hire a private guide and driver in Beijing?
A guide and driver are worth considering for the Great Wall or a family day with elderly parents or young children. For central walking and metro days, you may only need a guide or neither service. A driver handles transport; language support and sightseeing explanations should be confirmed separately.
My advice: agree on rest stops, a manageable number of visits and a clear pickup point. Quỳnh Nguyễn is based in Chaoyang, Beijing, but also accompanies trips to Shanghai and elsewhere in China; travel and lodging outside Beijing should be itemised.
How much does a private guide and driver cost in Beijing per day?
Premium China Tours publishes a base price of US$271 for a 5-seat vehicle plus an English-speaking guide. The allowance is vehicle 8 hours/100 km and guide 8 hours. Vehicle-only service starts at US$106; the English-speaking guide alone is US$165. These are that provider's examples, not my rates. Great Wall trips require a route-specific quote.
How much is a Beijing airport pickup?
The same provider lists a 5-seat, one-way transfer from US$52 at Capital (PEK) or US$60 at Daxing (PKX). Night service is extra. Source for day hire and transfers: Premium China Tours. Confirm luggage and seats, including a seat for a guide if accompanying you.
How much is a Vietnamese-Chinese interpreter in Beijing?
TalkingChina's CR Expo rate card lists professional Vietnamese-Chinese interpreting at 1,260 CNY for up to 4 hours or 1,800 CNY for up to 8 hours. Student rates are 1,050 and 1,500 CNY respectively. This is an exhibition-service example, not a universal interpreter fee or my price. The rates include 6% VAT; travel from another location is extra. Source: CR Expo / TalkingChina.
What's not included in the price?
Public day-guide rates often exclude the car and driver, tickets, and the guide's meals and lodging. According to the rate cards, these are often extra:
- The guide's meals: either they eat with you or it's about 100 CNY per meal.
- The guide's room on overnight trips: at least 250-300 CNY per night in big cities.
- Overtime past 8 hours: 150-200 CNY per hour at one provider.
- Extra guests: one provider adds 100 CNY per person per day from the 6th guest.
- Car and driver, priced by vehicle and distance; out-of-town days cost more.
- Entrance tickets, cable cars, shuttles, plus the guide's train fares on multi-city trips.
- Tips: optional; one source suggests 10-15% or 20-30 USD per day.
One provider says prices can rise 20-30% in peak season; treat that as a single-source estimate. My tip: compare the total cost for the whole group and trip. A 900 CNY/day guide plus car, room and meals can cost more than a 1,400 CNY/day quote that includes the car.
Should I hire a private guide in China?
You may only need a guide on 3-4 demanding days, particularly for major sites or family travel. A guide can be useful on:
- Beijing: the Forbidden City (timed tickets, passport scans, crowds, a huge site) and the Great Wall. See my Beijing guide.
- Xi'an: the Terracotta Warriors, outside the city. See Xi'an.
- Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang: many transfers, park shuttles and cable cars, signage mostly in Chinese.
- Travelling with elderly parents or young kids: slower pace, rest stops, milder food.
- Business or sourcing trips: hire a business interpreter (from 1,200 CNY/day at hdvlocal).
In Shanghai or Hangzhou, if you're comfortable with map apps, Alipay and a translation app, you can manage on your own most of the time. See Shanghai and Hangzhou. For a first trip, the sweet spot is usually a guide on 3-4 hard days and self-guided days in between. For the overall budget, see how much a China trip costs.
How do I choose a trustworthy guide?
Check the guide's identity, licence where applicable, and an itemised written quote before paying a deposit.
- Guide card: a card number (导游证号) you can check on the Ministry of Culture and Tourism guide lookup; a 2025 electronic guide card was announced on 13 June 2025. If someone is an unlicensed "interpreter-companion", ask directly.
- Real identity and one video call before any deposit.
- Written quote: hours, guests, car, tickets, guide's expenses, cancellation terms.
- Day-by-day itinerary, no vague lines.
- Verifiable reviews, and ask: "Are there any shopping stops?"
Are zero-fee tours with shopping stops legal?
Article 35 prohibits selling tours at unreasonably low prices to lure or deceive travellers and recover the cost through shopping commissions. A very cheap tour with daily jade, tea, silk or herbal-medicine shops deserves close scrutiny. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism notice on Article 35 of the Tourism Law targets "零负团费" (zero-fee and negative-fee) tours and states that:
- tours may not be organised at unreasonably low prices, and travellers may not be lured or deceived;
- designated shopping or paid extras require a written contract, agreed voluntarily;
- operators may not earn kickbacks from designated shops.
Red flags: prices far below the table, no written quote, 100% upfront, a "free" visit to a "jade factory".
Do you need a visa?
It depends on your passport. Vietnamese passport holders should check visa requirements and any exemption that fits their itinerary: see China visa for Vietnamese citizens and whether the 240-hour visa-free transit applies. French ordinary passports are visa-free for up to 30 days until 31 December 2026, per France Diplomatie. Other nationalities should check the current rules for their own passport.
How does True China Experience price a trip?
I accompany groups of 1-8 guests in Vietnamese, English or Mandarin, and can also plan the whole trip. I don't publish a daily rate: I quote per trip, itemising what's included. See my services or request a quote.

Premium China Tours publishes a base price of US$271 for a 5-seat vehicle with an English-speaking guide, allowing 8 hours/100 km for the vehicle and 8 hours for the guide. A Great Wall route needs its own quote because distance and time may exceed those limits. This is that provider's price, not Quỳnh Nguyễn's rate.
Can I travel to China without speaking Chinese?
Yes, particularly in Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou, if you prepare payment, mapping and translation apps. I recommend a guide for 3-4 more demanding days rather than automatically booking one for the whole trip. Allow slower days and planned rest stops when travelling with elderly parents.
